Director’s Note
Therapy-speak seems to be on everyone’s tongue these days. The language of cognitive behavioral therapy and positive, affirmational self-talk seems to permeate American culture now. As someone who has suffered from anxiety my entire life, I’ve often found this language comforting; it provides structure when it seems there is none. Affirmations have helped me in my own life, and they can be a powerful tool during moments of crisis.
But what if the person using these affirmations wasn’t to be trusted? What if something terrible has happened, and this person uses affirmations for a very different purpose? That is the focus and the basis behind this film. Sarah Goeke has crafted a short, impactful and shockingly savage script that takes place in a very brief amount of time. But within the span of 4 pages, the audience will come to understand the true power of affirmations.
Genre can be such a powerful tool to deeply explore the heights and depths of human experience. This film explores both in delightful and gruesome detail. We can’t wait to share this story with you.
